RECIPE of the Day - 1/30/2007

This recipe has all the great ingredients you love: chocolate, coffee and nuts. It is a great dessert and makes an excellent presentation
with the mocha glaze as a finishing touch. To make an elegant presentation, place chocolate curls in the center and place walnut halves around the edge on top to make a nice border.

Mocha Walnut Torte

1 cup walnuts
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2/3 cup butter or margarine
9 oz semi-sweet chocolate
6 eggs lightly beaten
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp dry instant coffee
2 tbsp water

1. In food processor, finely grind walnuts with flour.
2. Melt chocolate and butter in top of double boiler over simmering water.
3. Beat eggs and sugar 1 minute.
4. Beat in melted chocolate mixture and vanilla.
5. Blend in walnut mixture.
6. Dissolve coffee in hot water. Beat into batter.
7. Pour into greased and floured 9-inch cake pan.
8. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out almost clean.
9. Cool in pan 15 minutes, then remove from pan. Cool on wire rack. Pour warm glaze over cooled cake. Spread down over sides. Chill to set glaze.

Glaze

1/4 cup whipping cream
4 oz semi-sweet chocolate
