RECIPE of the Day - 5/06/2007

This is one of those sandwiches that we love to make for dinner occasionally. It is really delicious served with the Delicious Tomato Soup that I posted a recipe for earlier.

Italian Sausage Sourdough Melt

4 Sweet Italian sausage patties
1 medium onion, halved and sliced
1 red, orange or gold bell pepper, halved and sliced
1 T. olive oil
8 slices of provolone or swiss cheese
8 slices of sourdough bread

Cook the sausage patties thoroughly until well browned; drain well. Saute onion and peppers in olive oil until tender; set aside.

Grill 4 slices of sourdough bread and atop each, place cheese followed by the sausage patties, onions and peppers. Top each with another piece of bread, flip and grill until lightly browned.

Makes 4 sandwiches

Note: You can use fresh, sweet Italian sausage in casings. Just remove casings and flatten each sausage into a patty that is 1/2" thick.
